How to Live a Low-Tox Lifestyle

This Tuesday, Yola Robert will grace the Lipstick on The Rim Studio to talk all about detoxing your home and life, and you’re all getting a sneak peak into everything she went over with us, before the episode has even aired!

Yola is a certified holistic nutritionist and integrative health coach who specializes in low-tox living, gut, hormone, and autoimmune health. After dealing with hormone disorders ranging from Lupus, to Hashimotos, to PCOS, she became an expert in using nutrition and lifestyle science to manage, heal, and prevent diseases, while also promoting overall well-being.

I met Yola about 7 months ago, at a YSE Beauty event, where she explained her entire healthy journey and lifestyle. After just 20 minutes of talking with her, I immediately knew I needed to bring her into my home.

Since meeting Yola, she has completely transformed my household, helping the Stuber Clan lead a low-toxic lifestyle. On her first visit, she literally spent over 10 hours going through my entire house—I’m talking from my kitchen, to my pantry, to my cleaning supplies, to my bathroom — she truly covered it all.

She started by sifting through all the brands and products that are currently in my house, noting all the product types that are must-haves in our home, aka popcorn and chili lime tortilla chips. She then pulled the brands + products that contain high toxins, and provided me non-toxic and low-toxic swaps. She also educated me on what ingredients are highly toxic, so I now know what to look for when I’m shopping, and to ultimately allow me to make smarter decisions at the store.

One of the highlights of this process was the fact that through it all, Yola never provoked any stress or anxieties, if anything she actually eased many of the daily stressors I feel as a mom. She helped me feel more knowledgable and in control when making decisions for my family. Yola acknowledges that a fully non-toxic life is impossible, but there is useful information and actions you can take to significantly reduce the toxins in your everyday life.

She made sure to never demonize foods or products, but rather educate me on what is in these products, to then allow me to make the appropriate decisions on whether or not these are items my family and I want in our home.

After going through this process, I thought it would be interesting to have her on the podcast to take a deeper dive into all that she does, and tp teach you all how you can implement low-toxic and non-toxic way into your life.

In the episode, Yola talked us through the most common environmental toxins we are exposed to, food preservatives to look for (and avoid) on nutrition labels, how to properly store your foods, and non-toxic/low-toxic brands and items to add into your household.

I’ve rounded up some of the specific swaps I made in my house, early access to the generic, non-toxic guide Yola made for LOTR listeners, and some non-toxic recipes you can add into your cook rotation!
