As everyone probably knows, I did some major spring cleaning these past couple weeks. I went through every shelf, every drawer, every rack…everything. It was a process, to say the least 🙄 but boy did it feel good once all said and done.
Luckily I had a little help from my girls Clea and Joanna at The Home Edit (who, by the way, just dropped some serious organization wisdom on the latest podcast episode - definitely a must-listen!)
One of the greatest pieces of wisdom I gained from the girls was that when you’re taking on your closet, which many have an emotional attachment to (me included), you really have to consider the fact that you either get the space, or the item — you can’t have both. With that in mind you can then start to look at each piece in your wardrobe, and consider it’s true value in your space. I honestly found this to be SO helpful in my own clean out process.
I was able to separate the item from my emotions, and remember that if I kept some old shoes I haven’t worn in three years it does actually matter, because I am sacrificing something, valuable space in my home.
Anyway, all this to say I feel like I've truly honed in on which pieces in my closet are truly worth it. For the first time in a long time, maybe even first time ever, I think I can say, I have effectively crafted my capsule wardrobe.
Now because this is a heavily fashion-based blog, I thought it would be fun to share my capsule wardrobe with you all. Over the next few weeks, I’ll go through different sections of my closet and share my findings and end results.
Maybe this will give you the inspo to finally clean out closet in your house you’ve been putting off, or maybe this will give you some new items to add to your wishlist.
Either way, for today, we’re going to get into all things handbags!
I think handbags are a fundamental aspect of one's wardrobe, that many invest in and curate over time. While I adore a collector's item purse, I feel confident in stating that with the following four bags, you'll genuinely have a handbag suitable for any occasion. From daytime, to evenings, and even to the office, the below five handbags are essential pieces I think every woman needs.
A Slouchy, Oversized Tote
I love an oversized tote. I mean it truly transcends every season, and it never goes out of style. Whether you need it for work, mom duty, an overnight stay, or you just got a lot of shit to carry, I can’t think of any woman that doesn’t need a good quality, long lasting, and chic tote that goes with everything.
A Classic Crossbody
I think a classic, neutral crossbody might be one of the most important handbags in every woman’s closet. You can wear it day or night, it’s practical and you’ll have it forever.
You all know I love my Loewe Flamenco Crossbody, but this new T-Lock leather clutch from Toteme has become my new all time fav. First off, it has a crossbody strap, or can be worn as a clutch (so you’re basically getting two bags in one 😜), and I just love the sleek, structured silhouette.
A Mid-Sized Shoulder Bag (Preferably with Some Structure)
Another Toteme bag are we surprised?
This Bucket Bag is everything I could want in a shoulder bag and more. It’s got a casual laid back feel, but is still somewhat structured so it instantly makes a look more elevated. It’s light weight, versatile and the tan color is the perfect brown bag that every woman needs in her wardrobe. P.S. it also comes with a crossbody strap.
A Day to Night Clutch
Every woman needs a clutch. Even if you think you’ll never use it, or have too much to carry, I promise you will run into so many occasions where you need one.
This suede brown one is from Khaite a few years ago. I love it because it’s casual enough to wear during the day, but you can also totally use it in the evening for a more dressed up look.
